HOLLY CAPPS, DVM

A Childhood Dream

Dr. Holly Capps was raised in Princeton, NC, by a prominent local family. Her late grandfather, Elmer Eugene Capps, was an active Princeton United Methodist Church member and founded Capps Corner in 1981. Dr. Capps worked at the family-operated greenhouse and florist throughout her childhood and, as Assistant Manager for seven years, helped customers raise healthy plants. From a very young age, her love of nurturing living things, including animals, created her desire to become a veterinarian.

Extensive Education and Experience

Dr. Capps earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences from the University of Mount Olive. The North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine awarded her a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. While studying to be a veterinarian during her undergraduate career, Dr. Capps served as a part-time Research Technician for the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, where she was responsible for comprehensive care of calves, dairy and beef cattle, and pigs at the Cherry Research Farm in Goldsboro. As a Farrier’s Assistant at Thompson’s Farrier Service, she worked with horses, managing safe shoeing practices and ensuring the safety of all involved from the hoofed to human. She was a Veterinary Assistant at Waylin Animal Clinic for five years and was promoted to Associate Veterinarian upon graduation. Dr Capps then served as an Associate Veterinarian at Five Oaks Animal Hospital in Kinston, NC before she began working as a relief veterinarian, traveling across NC to help numerous practices during their times of need for veterinary coverage and to help decrease their workload. This provided her the ability to experience a great diversity in medicine, client base and ability, as well as medical and surgical case management, skills which she will use to offer a greater variety of treatment and care options for all of her patients.

Coming Home

Since deciding on her career path as an undergraduate college student, Dr Capps has dreamed of providing high-quality care to the pets in her hometown. Her dream came true when she opened Capps Veterinary Clinic in early 2024 for the convenience of her longtime neighbors and friends. She enjoys being an involved community member and building long-lasting relationships by providing local pet owners exceptional care and preventive education.
