Compassionate Care from Veterinary Professionals

Dr. Holly Capps and our team provide convenient comprehensive care to the pets of the Princeton area. As part of this community, we are committed to building lifelong relationships with local owners as we help keep their pets healthy.

HOLLY CAPPS, DVM

A Childhood Dream

Dr. Holly Capps was raised in Princeton, NC, by a prominent local family. Her late grandfather, Elmer Eugene Capps, was an active Princeton United Methodist Church member and founded Capps Corner in 1981. Dr. Capps worked at the family-operated greenhouse and florist throughout her childhood and, as Assistant Manager for seven years, helped customers raise healthy plants. From a very young age, her love of nurturing living things, including animals, created her desire to become a veterinarian.

Extensive Education and Experience

Dr. Capps earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology/Biological Sciences from the University of Mount Olive. The North Carolina State University College of Veterinary Medicine awarded her a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. While studying to be a veterinarian during her undergraduate career, Dr. Capps served as a part-time Research Technician for the NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, where she was responsible for comprehensive care of calves, dairy and beef cattle, and pigs at the Cherry Research Farm in Goldsboro. As a Farrier’s Assistant at Thompson’s Farrier Service, she worked with horses, managing safe shoeing practices and ensuring the safety of all involved from the hoofed to human. She was a Veterinary Assistant at Waylin Animal Clinic for five years and was promoted to Associate Veterinarian upon graduation. Dr Capps then served as an Associate Veterinarian at Five Oaks Animal Hospital in Kinston, NC before she began working as a relief veterinarian, traveling across NC to help numerous practices during their times of need for veterinary coverage and to help decrease their workload. This provided her the ability to experience a great diversity in medicine, client base and ability, as well as medical and surgical case management, skills which she will use to offer a greater variety of treatment and care options for all of her patients.

Coming Home

Since deciding on her career path as an undergraduate college student, Dr Capps has dreamed of providing high-quality care to the pets in her hometown. Her dream came true when she opened Capps Veterinary Clinic in early 2024 for the convenience of her longtime neighbors and friends. She enjoys being an involved community member and building long-lasting relationships by providing local pet owners exceptional care and preventive education.

Outside the clinic, Michael enjoys photography, automotive projects, and spending time with his wife Catalina and their daughter Emilia.

BAILEY PORTER

Veterinary Assistant

Bailey has always yearned to be a voice for animals that can’t speak for themselves. She pursued her professional training in Veterinary Science through the Penn Foster Veterinary Technician Program, earning her diploma as a Veterinary Assistant. Before joining Dr. Holly, she cared for pets at Berkeley Veterinary Clinic in Goldsboro, NC. Bailey considers the benefits of her work at our clinic to include the opportunity to learn from Dr. Holly’s experience and compassion for all her patients and their owners, which helps her grow and progress in her career. She enthusiastically supports Dr. Holly’s practice philosophy, which prioritizes pet welfare over profits.

MELISSA THOMAS

Lead Veterinary Assistant

At the age of 16, Melissa discovered her passion for animals and her desire to be their advocate. With six years of veterinary experience and training from the Penn Foster Veterinary Academy, she joined our practice. Her decision to move from a larger practice to ours was driven by her appreciation for the quality of teamwork and the opportunity to grow in a smaller community.

Melissa loves caring for plants, gardening, and spending time with her beloved cats.
